The last match of the season was the decider to see which county qualified to play in the MNR finals. Fortunately Lincolnshire beat Leicestershire away which meant that Nottinghamshire, after having three wins out of four matches, were victorious and we were going to Longcliffe golf club to play Staffordshire in the midland north finals. We knew we were in for a tough match as Staffordshire are a strong county, and they won it last year.
The team were Millie Browne, Caron Harrison, Mimi Hothersall, Jorja Newbold, Suzanne Pretty, Ellen Sanderson and Sue West.
The morning foursomes were nip and tuck, but we managed to get 2 out of the 3 points which put us in a good position for the afternoon singles. Jorja Newbold led the way with a win and Millie Browne, one of our youngsters, also gained a great win but with two losses we were all square. Mimi Hothersall, another 15-year-old, was 1up on the 17th, which she then halved…18th tee both players did great drives, but Mimi then put her 2nd shot near the pin resulting in her winning 2&1 and Nottinghamshire winning the match.
A fantastic result by a great team, well played everybody!
Many thanks to my fantastic vice-captain Sue Taylor and the rest of the squad Emma Anderson, Maddison Clarke, Charlie Inger, Hayley Laverty, Millie Marsh, Janet Peters and Ellie Wang, we couldn't have got to the finals without you.
According to the names engraved on the cup this is only the second time that Nottinghamshire has won the cup. Helen Haycox and her squad won it in 2019.
