Home International Success

Winning England Girls' Team

Great success for two of our girls who were playing for England in the Home International Matches this week. Elizabeth Wilson was in Ireland with the Girls' and Boys' teams and Amelia Wan was with the Women's and Men's teams at Woodhall Spa.

England won the Girls’ & Boys’ Home Internationals for a fifth consecutive year in Cork, Ireland. On a dramatic final day, all eyes were on England and Scotland as the two battled it out for the combined trophy for a second successive year. And, in an identical finish to the 2024 tournament, England edged their bordering neighbours 13-8 for the title. England therefore, enjoyed a memorable week in the Emerald Isle, with the girls topping the leader board with three wins from three and the boys finishing second behind Scotland.

Picking up 23.5 points out of a possible 27, the girls stamped their authority in the singles. Winning 6.5 out of 9 in the foursomes, the group would only lose 1 singles match out of 18, adding a mammoth 17 points to the total. The girls' staggering run of Home International titles continues, making it seven in a row since 2016 and 15 wins from the last 16 tournaments, with only Ireland in 2016 halting the run.

Charlotte Naughton (Longhirst Hall), Annabel Peaford (Walton Heath), and Elizabeth Wilson (Norwood Park) would all go 100% winning all six of their matches (three foursomes and three singles). Well done Lizzie, an excellent week!

England won the Men's & Women's Home Internationals at Woodhall Spa to complete an excellent week. In the dimming light, England edged a tight clash with Wales 12-9 on the final day, to clean sweep all three matches. The result means England has reclaimed the trophy from Ireland, making it three wins from four events since the amalgamated tournament began in 2022.

On a final day full of drama, the Men's, Women's, and combined trophies were all on the line. With wins over Scotland (13-8) and Ireland (11.5-9.5), England were leading the standings in the Men's and combined, with Ireland leading the Women's competition. After a 5-2 lead over Wales in the foursomes, things were looking promising. But a dramatic final putt for Ireland on 18 secured the Women's title for them, meaning all focus turned to the other titles. With leads toing and froing, the combined trophy was claimed with Lindrick's Tom Osborne's 2&1 win, before debutant Jamie Van Wyk sealed the Men's triumph on 17 with a clutch birdie putt.

Women's Squad was: Sophia Fullbrook (The Melbourne Club), Lily Hirst (Huddersfield), Isla McDonald-O'Brien (Shrewsbury), Nellie Ong (Eaton), Patience Rhodes (Burnham & Berrow), Amelia Wan (Coxmoor) and Davina Xanh (Burnham & Berrow). Congratulations on another successful week Amelia!
