County Week 2025 Report

Assembling for the presentation

County Match Week (or county two and half days which doesn’t have the same ring to it) was played at Coxmoor Golf Club from 23rd to 25th June 2025. Here the Association played host to the other five Midland North Region Counties. What a few days this turned out to be!

On Monday the team were involved in two very close matches against Staffordshire and Shropshire resulting in two halved matches. Tuesday was going to be a tough day against Lincolnshire and Derbyshire and we needed to win both matches, the team were up for the challenge.

Sickness supplies

Then overnight the sickness bug hit and one by one members of the team succumbed and were confined to their hotel rooms. By Tuesday morning only six were left standing and so Notts would have been unable to field a full team of seven, however we were able to call in an additional player which was a very sporting gesture by the other Captains. Enter super sub Carol Houghton who was at home contemplating a relaxing day when the call came, “can you be on the 10th tee at Coxmoor in an hour”! The magnificent seven then won both matches and going into the final morning the team were still in with a chance to win despite all that had happened.

Again the team played fantastically including two returnees from illness and they gave their all despite not being fully fit. The team beat Leicestershire & Rutland to remain unbeaten but sadly lost out on the overall win to Lincolnshire. I cannot praise all the squad highly enough for dealing with such adversity, still playing their hearts out or supporting from their sickbeds. They are all a great credit to the Association and their clubs. They will be back next year at Shifnal!

Runner-up Presentation

My thanks also go to Senior Vice Captain, Di and Assistant Vice Captain, Susie, who provided incredible support throughout.  I must also record a huge debt of thanks to the Tournament Team of Helen Haycox, Gillian Stump, Suzi Anderson and Chief Referee, Emma Anderson and her referees who all put in an enormous amount of work before and during the competition and also had to cope with the challenges of “the bug”. Volunteers from a number of clubs also took on the important role of “Results Officials”, reporting in game results from the course to the Tournament Office. Their “steps” count each day was off the scale!

Thanks also to the Coxmoor members particularly the Ladies Section, under the leadership of Lady Captain, Heather, who acted as Team Hosts, course marshalls and staffed the halfway house. Coxmoor provided a challenging test for all the players and was presented in great condition and so the final thanks are to the staff and members of the club for hosting County Match Week 2025.
