The 2025 season is in full swing and a very busy month began with the Coronation Cups at Chilwell Manor GC where Margaret Thorpe and Karen Donnelly (Ruddington Grange) were victorious with 46 points. The Mixed Pairs run by the Notts Union and played at The Nottinghamshire saw the home club pairing of David & Julie Rose win with an outstanding 48 points. As the first of the June heatwaves happened we even began to wish for a little rain to soften the increasingly dry and bouncy course conditions across the county.
Mid month it was County Match Week (or county two and half days which doesn’t have the same ring to it) at Coxmoor GC where the Association played host to the other five Midland North Region Counties - full report in separate news article.
On the final Saturday in June, with another heatwave hitting, 27 ladies with handicaps of 36 to 54 attended a Fun and Social golf afternoon at Norwood Park Golf Centre. They participated in putting and chipping clinics led by Pros Pete and Tom, a putting skills challenge and then had a chance to put their new skills to the test on the Par 3 course. Afterwards the group relaxed and over cake and a drink. The event was run using funds from the Igolf grant bid made to England Golf and we will be able to report back on a successful afternoon and very positive feedback from the ladies who attended. We intend to put on another event later in the season. Thanks to Norwood Park for supporting this initiative.
The next individual competitions are the Summer Meeting & Vets Trophy at Rushcliffe on July 21st and the Autumn Meeting & Vets Cup at Norwood Park on September 8th. Entries for both are still open. I am looking forward to seeing many of you at my County Captains Days at Wollaton on July 13th and 14th.
Happy golfing, Clare, County Captain
