The match season started with a Scratch Match vs Lincolnshire at Rothley Golf Club in Leicestershire. On slightly greener fairways than the girls have played lately in Nottinghamshire the two teams set off on a pleasant day with a chilly wind and the promise of sun during the round.
In the singles Captain Maddison Clarke led the field and had a tight match against Izzy Linsley, sinking a long putt on 18 to finish the match all square, Amelia Hothersall had a great battle with Poppy Sinclair with the lead changing throughout, but she kept her nerve and won 2 & 1, Mya Neal had a rocky start to her round against Ava Allenby, but pulled back well to take the lead, which she kept for most of the back 9 and finished with a win 2 & 1.
The foursomes pairing of Olivia Wilson and Erika Lee were both making their debuts in the Scratch team. Unfortunately, one of their opponents was ill and they had a walkover in their match, but they still had a great battle on the course playing Sophie Robinson and their team Manager Nel. Great experience learning matchplay with a seasoned player though!
The overall result was 3 ½ - ½ a great first match of the season. Well done everyone. The scratch team are playing again next week at Trentham Park GC, against Shropshire and Derbyshire… good luck to the team.
