County Matches 2020

After discussions involving our President Eva Glasby, MNR Rep Clare Jones, Vice-Captain Di Payne and Assistant Vice-Captain Audrey MacMillan and with the support of our Executive Committee, and I must stress, it is with sincere regret, we have decided that we must withdraw from Midlands North County Week and our reasons are outlined below:

  • Following the outbreak of Covd19 in China a period of 12 weeks has passed and they are still not in the clear, we are at the outset of the outbreak here and will in all probability have a similar if not longer elapsed time. This will take us up to mid-June and we may still have all the government measures in place.
  • Most importantly, as County Week will necessitate the congregation of people we feel it may still not be safe to put our players and officials in a situation where their health maybe compromised.

It is with regret that we have come to this conclusion but it is our responsibility to safeguard the welfare of all those who would be involved. Since making this decision we have been informed that Derbyshire have also withdrawn from the competition. We look forward to seeing and competing with all our fellow county members in much happier times.
On a brighter note - we are hoping that it may be possible to reorganise some of our County golf towards the end of the Summer so that we can all get out into the sunshine and celebrate by playing the game that we all love with our friends and fellow club members, but for the time being we need to make sure everyone stays safe.

Kind regards
Helen Haycox
