The Nottinghamshire win Volvo National Golf Challenge
Congratulations
to The Nottinghamshire GC who won the national final of the Volvo National
Golf Club Challenge at Turnberry GC in aid of Help For Heros
The event is sponsored by Volvo and run in aid of Help for Heros,
which is why the club entered as it is their Captains' charity
this year. Each club runs a qualifier in June and the best four women's
teams and best four men's teams qualify for the national final at
Turnberry.
Emma Howie (NCLGA County Champion) also won the
order of merit competition which is an individual competition that runs
alongside the team event, and means the best overall score (man
or woman) qualifies for the Volvo World Final challenge.
The Volvo World Final Challenge is being held at Fancourt in South
Africa in January. It is held alongside the pro tour event (Volvo Golf
Champions) which is being held there the same week and there is a
chance Emma will get to play in the pro-am - Good luck Emma

County Week 2011

Congratulations to the County First Team
on coming second to Lincolnshire after countback at County Week.
Having beaten Staffordshire, Shropshire and Derbyshire and losing to
Leics and Rutland, Notts entered the final day needing to win against
Lincs who had not lost a match.
We won 5/4 after a great contest but sadly lost 25½ 28½ in total
games. It was a great week. Derbyshire County Ladies Golf Association
worked extremely hard over many months in preparation
for the tournament which went very smoothly.
Chevin golf club, their staff and members made us really welcome
and we could not have asked for a more friendly week. The catering was
exceptional and the course in superb condition There was even
a half way house with home made cakes for us after our hike to the top.
It was a week where there was some super golf to be seen and the matches
were played in the best sporting spirit.
I would like to thank all those who caddied and the many supporters,
families and friends who came over to Chevin.
Wishing Lincs every success as representatives of Midland North Region
in the finals which will take place at Thorndon Pk Golf Club on
the week of 12th September.

Yoga 4 Golf
The benefits of Yoga 4 Golf have long been recognised in America but the
concept is still relatively new in the UK, the reason being that many people are
under the misconception that in order to practice Yoga, you need to be able to
stand on your head and tie yourself in knots. Not true!
Yoga is an ancient practice that works the entire body and also the mind. It
will help to improve your, flexibility, strength, balance, stamina and
concentration; all very important factors when playing golf and it is also great
fun.

 The
Notts County Ladies Golf Association Championship was held at
Stanton-n-the-Wolds Golf Club from Friday to Sunday 20th-22nd May.
The weather was kind as far as rain was concerned, but the wind proved
extremely difficult, particularly on Friday morning - the 1st

Scoring for the qualifying rounds on Friday were rather mixed, however
the best gross scores was 76 by Katie Best (Sherwood Forest) &

quickly, however Emma rallied and reached the 15th dormy. She
then won the next 4 holes taking the match to the 19th. This was
halved in 5, both players having tree problems from their drives.

French Senior Ladies (Gold de Chantaco
St Jean de Luz France) April 6-8th 2011
Five Nottinghamshire ladies and 1 ex Notts lady made the
trip to France to play in French seniors. This year the field was
112 players from 13 countries and consisted of 10 professionals as well.
The week started in rain and finished in temperatures of 30 degrees! The
tournament was organised and run by the Lacoste family headed by Catherine
Lacoste winner of the British open in 1967. Her hospitality was wonderful
and all players were given a Lacoste shirt, Titleist balls, and many
other gifts. There was also a lavish cocktail party at The Grand palace
hotel in Biarritz and a champagne reception at the prizegiving ceremony.
The course was lovely, but very tricky and players found the greens
difficult.
Caron Harrison and Sue Penfold qualified for the final days play and
finished in 45th and 51st respectively, while Janet Doleman missed the cut
by 1 shot. Andrea Stockdale and Gillian Stump also missed the cut.
Susan Glen an ex Notts player made the cut but had a final round of
75 shooting her up the leader to final placement of 34
