WANTED - County Junior Organiser

At the moment, the County is without a Junior Organiser.

We have a thriving junior girls section with a very willing, helpful and supportive Junior Committee. However, we need someone to act as the focal point and help with fixtures, team selection and to be the main contact for our Juniors.

Notts Girls win the 2011  EWGA Midlands North League

Emily Cheshire, NCLGA Junior CaptainI am very pleased to announce that we have won the 2011 EWGA Midlands North league. We played five matches during the season against Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Shropshire, Staffordshire and Derbyshire.

Our scratch team were unbeaten during the season with a notable 6 – 0 victory against our biggest rivals, Lincolnshire. We also had wins against Leicestershire, Shropshire, Staffordshire and a half in our last match of the season against Derbyshire secured the title.

Everyone who has played in the scratch and second teams contributed important points and gained invaluable experience for the future. It has been great to have new young talent playing in the second team this season knowing that they will soon be at the top of Notts girls golf.

I am very proud to have been captain of Nottinghamshire Girls this year and so pleased to have been part of such a successful team. Nottinghamshire girls golf has grown enormously since I have been in the team and it’s amazing how strong the team has become.

Next  year is my last year as a junior I hope the team, which will be stronger than ever,  can repeat the success of this season with Rachel Boulton as captain.

My congratulations and thanks to Emma Newlove, Lianna Bailey, Jodie Peacock, Emily-mae Hall, Rachel Boulton,  Alex Peters, Emily Lyle, Annabel Bailey, Laura Morris, Sophie Newlove, Rhiannon Linacre,  Amy Oxbury, Emma Anderson, Esme Hamilton and Sarah Riddell.

Emily Mae represents England in Schools

Emily Mae HallCongratulations to Emily Mae Hall (Notts) who was selected to represent England Schools in a match against Scotland Schools. Emily Mae writes

The whole event in Scotland was amazing, apart from the weather -70mph winds and horizontal rain cut the competition short. Only the singles were played, and not all of them some boys only managed to play 9 holes. It became dangerous and the rest of the event was called off. However Scotland won the morning singles ...(they kept their ball lower!)"

It was a massive achievement for Emily Mae to get that far and represent England, I'm sure she loved every minute. The boysEnglish Schools (Emily Mae on left) and girls all received their England Schools colours and get to keep all the kit. The English girls were Emily Mae (2 handicap), Dulcie Sverdloff (2), Alison Knowles (1), Georgina Mundy (scr), Shelby Smart (scr) and Holly Vizard (4)

On her return, Emily Mae also played in the Henderson Carlisle at Wollaton Park and won the Under 16 Gross with a level par round

Well done Emily Mae

Coxmoor girls finish 4th in EGU Junior Champion Club Tournament

Coxmmor girls (from EGU Site)For the first time in the competition’s comparatively short history, an all-girls team will be competing in the Junior Champion Club tournament over the Bracken Course at Woodhall Spa on 20th – 21st August.

The trio, Rhiannon Linacre, Megan McJannet and Rebecca Williams, will represent Coxmoor Golf Club, the Nottinghamshire champions and they bring with them some golfing pedigree.

Rhiannon Linacre is the daughter of Heath Linacre, winner of the English under 16 Championship for the McGregor Trophy in 1985. She was also mentioned in the Guinness Book of Records as the youngest girl to achieve a hole-in-one. Megan McJannet is the daughter of Derek McJannet, a stalwart of Nottinghamshire golf and a long-standing county player.

The junior club champions from almost every county will be on parade in the 36-hole Stableford competition with the best two scores each day from every three-strong team to count.

The Coxmoor team finished a creditable 4th overall after day 2 scores of 40 points for Rebecca and 36 points for Rhiannon - well done

Emily finishes 2nd in Scottish U14's

Emily LyleCongratulations to Emily Lyle (Worksop) who finished joint  2nd in the Scottish U14`s at Aberdour Golf Club

Emily along with another English girl was joint leader waiting for a play off until the final group came in, a girl from Norway pipped our girls to the post with 3 shots better.

The weather was horrendous with the course being closed for both the practice round and the 1st round, it was only
because the course staff spent all day and night moving the water off the course that the 2nd round was able to be played.

Well played Emily
